Bike and Ride Free on Metro, TANK and CTC on Thursday, May 17

CINCINNATI –  To celebrate Bike to Work Day, bicycle commuters can ride free on Metro, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) or Clermont Transportation Connection (CTC) on Thursday, May 17, when they transport their bikes on the easy-to-use bus bike racks.

Bike racks are located on the front of all Metro, TANK and CTC buses and can be used at all bus stops including Government Square downtown. Each bike rack can accommodate two bikes. For safety reasons, bikes are not allowed on-board buses unless they can be folded and stowed under a seat.

Metro and TANK will also be at the Bike to Work Day Celebration on Fountain Square on May 17, from noon to 1 p.m., to demonstrate the ease of biking and riding buses. Visit http://www.queencitybike.com/ for information on Cincinnati Bike Month activities.

Inbound Columbia Parkway down to one lane for Friday rush hour

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The westbound curb lanes of Columbia Parkway between Martin Drive and the Third St./Fort Washington Way exit ramp are closed and will remain closed for morning rush hour on Friday.

As crews were cleaning up and ready to open Columbia Parkway after removing an unstable portion of the hillside that began moving earlier this week, the remaining hillside also began moving.  Engineers decided for the safety of the traveling public to put the lane closure back in place until the hillside can be stabilized again.  Crews will mobilize early Friday and begin work on removing the remaining unstable dirt.

Columbia Parkway is reduced down to one lane, between Martin Street and the Third Street exit.  All exit and entrance ramps will remain open at all times.  Drivers are encouraged to reduce their speed and use caution when approaching the closure area.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Metro's first five new "mini-hybrid" buses will go into service this week.

Despite its name, the new buses aren't so "mini" nor are they traditional hybrid buses. the 40-foot hybrids have an advanced thermal cooling system technology which will improve fuel economy up to 10%, reduce green house gas emissions and increase safety through the elimination of hydraulic fluid leaks.

Through the debut of the mini-hybrid, a cost savings of about $240,000 per bus compared to a traditional hybrid can be expected due to an advanced "electric" fan cooling system.

Metro has ordered more 40 more mini-hybrid buses, which will go into service in the next several months.
