Celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month at Main Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Join us at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County as we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month with a guest lecture by Carmi Neiger at the Main Library Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in the Genealogy & Local History Program Space on the third floor.

Neiger, an assistant professor at Elmhurst College in Illinois, will speak on the topic “Cohens on the Move: Jewish Neighborhood Dynamics in Cincinnati, 1940-1990.” His lecture asks the question: “What constitutes a Jewish neighborhood?”

Tri State food donation drive extended by one week

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The momentum built during the weeks of a local food drive has led organizers to extend the promotion by one week.

The St. Vincent De Paul and Papa Johns food drive allows customers to earn a free large one-topping pizza by donating ten non-perishable food items at your local Papa John’s Pizza location.

Papa John’s Pizza has offered to give away up to 20,000 free pizzas through the drive to customers who donate ten non-perishable food items at local Papa John’s stores. Donors receive a coupon good for a large one-topping pizza that is redeemable online.

No purchase is necessary, so all are encouraged to stop by the closest Papa John’s and donate through May 12.

Teen financial literacy focus of summer workshops at Public Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County was one of 14 public libraries nationwide chosen through a competitive process to win a grant to fund “Smart investing@your library®” teen workshops at selected branch locations.

The $57,853 grant was awarded from the American Library Association (ALA) in partnership with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation. The Library will work with The Ohio State University Extension Office to develop and present the workshops, which were created to improve teen financial literacy.

“It’s an honor to be selected for this generous grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. We’re excited to deliver information that helps teenagers build a brighter financial future,” said Kimber L. Fender, the Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library.

HYDE PAERK, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Police District Two is investigating a Felony Theft offense that occurred on March 26 at the Wing Eye Care located in Hyde Park.

A female suspect and a male suspect removed several thousand dollars’ worth of frames from the display wall.

Special reception to discuss plans for Wasson Way Bike Trail

HYDE PARK, OH (FOX19) - A special reception is being held in support of the Wasson Way Bike Trail project.

The reception is being put together for foundations, corporations, community political leaders and businesses along the route) on May 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the Health Foundation Headquarters on Edwards Road in Hyde Park.

Eric Oberg, Director of Midwest Trail Development for Rails-to-Rails, will make presntation at the event.

The proposed Wasson Way Project would run 6.5 miles and would connect Xavier University to Ault Park to Mariemont and then to the Little Miami River.

The Wasson Road railroad tracks span the neighborhoods of Evanston, Norwood, Hyde Park, Oakley, Mt Lookout, Fairfax, and Mariemont.

Large donation to YMCA made at Hyde Park Jersey Mike's

HYDE PARK, OH (FOX19) - Jersey Mike’s presentation of a giant $28,000 check to the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati took place on Thursday afternoon.

The presentation was for the Jersey Mike Month of Giving Campaign in March. Throughout the month of March, local Jersey Mike’s Subs stores accepted donations for the Y; on March 27, 100 percent of sales collected were earmarked for the YMCA, a leading local nonprofit. 

“Store owners with Jersey Mike's Subs in the Cincinnati area felt it was important to support our local YMCA during the Month of Giving this year,” said Larry Rover, area director of Jersey Mike’s.  “We have seen the positive impact the YMCA has made in the community, and we wanted to make sure children and adults continue to have the opportunity to experience activities that lead to a healthy lifestyle. We have enjoyed partnering with an organization that shares similar values.”
