Power Up… READ! this summer at the Public Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - It’s time to “power up” your reading skills and earn prizes for participating in the 40th annual Summer Reading Program at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. This year’s theme, Power Up…Read!, offers all sorts of excitement by spotlighting “superheroes.”

To kick off a fun season of reading (June 1-July 31), ALL Library locations around Hamilton County are holding Summer Reading activities related to this exciting theme on Saturday, June 1. Children and their families are invited to stop by their neighborhood Library to decorate a superhero mask (while supplies last).

Special kickoff events at selected Library locations on June 1:

Children's motorcade honoring juvenile arthritis victims to pass through Hyde Park

HYDE PARK, OH (FOX19) - As a preview to the June 9 Ault Park Concours d’Elegance, a motorcade with fourteen invited show cars chauffeuring children with Juvenile Arthritis will be escorted by the Cincinnati Police Motorcycle Unit.

 Motorcade Details & Route

-          Formation starts at Ault Park, north parking lot, at 9:30 a.m.; Motorcade departs at 10:00 a.m. Observatory Ave. to Edwards; Erie Ave. through Hyde Park Square; continues on Erie to Delta to Columbia Parkway heading west to 3rd St. exit to Gest Street to Dalton/Spring Grove; continues to Monmouth Street.

-          At approximately 10:30 a.m. the Motorcade will arrive at the American Sign Museum at 1330 Monmouth Street.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - From nature preserves and parkways, to regional and neighborhood parks, Cincinnati has a long and proud history of enhancing the quality of life through outdoor recreation. In keeping with this tradition, Cincinnati Parks, in partnership with ArtWorks and the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, is gathering community input on the design of a new carousel to be built at Smale Riverfront Park.

Through May 30, the Main Library is displaying selections from its historic postcard collection in A Place of Beauty, Health and Play: A History of Cincinnati Parks. This display features more than 60 images of 17 parks, including Ault, Eden, Lincoln, Mount Echo and Washington parks.   Images from the display can be viewed at http://cinlib.org/YIsCAq.

Remke bigg's transferring prescriptions to Walgreen's

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Remke bigg's has announced it is transferring all of its prescription business to Walgreens effective May 21, 2013.

"The pharmacy industry has changed to the point that there needed to be an investment into upgrading our systems to keep pace with the industry and to serve our customers at the level we felt was necessary to continue our legacy of exceptional service," said Remke bigg's CEO Bill Remke. "This investment would have distracted us from our main goal of delivering high quality, fresh food, local products and outstanding service."

Remke bigg's will continue to offer a professional butcher in every store, source produce locally when possible, and offer freshly made bakery, homemade deli selections and expanded organic offerings, health, beauty care and wellness products.

Remke bigg's prescription files will transfer to Walgreens May 21, 2013 with no interruption in service and care.

Celebrate 'Saturnday' at the Cincinnati Observatory

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- The lord of the rings shines in prime time!

The magnificent planet, most breathtaking object in the universe, Saturn takes center stage at the Cincinnati Observatory for Saturnday. 

The observatory will host a viewing of Saturn through the historic 1845 and 1904 telescopes if weather permits. There will also be running talks and tours of the buildings. 

If the night sky is clear, portable telescopes will be set up outside to show visitors the Moon and stars as well.    

It costs $7 and no reservations are needed.
