Gateway to Recognize Outstanding Students at May 14 Awards Convocation

COVINGTON, KY — Gateway Community and Technical College will recognize the exemplary academic, leadership and technical performance of 188 students, including 106 scholarship recipients, Tuesday at its annual Night of Excellence. The convocation will take place at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Ky.

Rani Clark and David Strange, both of Ft. Thomas, received top honors as recipients of the J.D. Patton Award for academic and technical excellence. The Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary earned the award for best student organization of the year.

Recipients are selected by faculty and staff committees and academic divisions based on student performance. Individual students receiving awards, include:

(FOX19) - Nickelodeon's new show, Supah Ninjas, stars a local actor Radek Lord. Radek,16 , is a student at Summit Country Day School and plays the villiain on Supah Ninjas.

Hyde Park girl scout among recipients of Gold Award

HYDE PARK, OH (FOX19) - Thirteen local Girl Scouts received the esteemed Gold Award from Girl Scouts of Western Ohio this year.

Girl Scout Gold Award recipients from the Cincinnati area include:  Stephanie Allaire of Evendale, Kristen Bisig, Meghan Kate Tegtmeier and Lauren Crall of Loveland, Cassidy Duckett of Franklin, Catherine Elsaesser of Wyoming, Jeanette Gourley, Clara Young and Madison Hartshorn of Waynesville, Stacey Marshall of Colerain, Kristy Martini of Sunman, IN, Tyler Poirier of Hyde Park, Jessica Ann Wells of Guilford, IN.

The girls received this honor during a ceremonty held at The Phoenix in downtown Cincinnati.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that Girl Scouts in grades 9–12 may earn. The efforts put forth to earn this award express a special commitment by the recipient to herself, her community and her future.  Approximately six percent of Girl Scouts nationwide earn this award.

Gateway Appoints Schutzman Dean of Workforce Solutions

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – Carissa Schutzman of Villa Hills, Ky., was recently named dean of Workforce Solutions at Gateway Community and Technical College, according to Angie Taylor, Gateway vice president of Workforce Solutions and innovations.

In this role, Schutzman is responsible for collaborating with Gateway’s business, industry, and secondary education partners to develop programs and services designed to spur workforce development and preparation. A major part of her role involves creating initiatives to increase the pool of qualified candidates for manufacturing jobs.

Gateway Assessment Center Director Appointed to National Board

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19)  –  Cynthia Sproehnle, director of the Assessment Center at Gateway Community and Technical College, has been appointed to serve as a director of the National Council Testing Association. Sproehnle was selected by the board to fill an unexpired term that will be completed in September 2015.

“Cindy is well-deserving of this honorable and responsibility,” said Angie Taylor, Gateway vice president of Workforce Solutions and Innovations. The Gateway Assessment Center is part of the Workforce Solutions Division. “Cindy’s leadership has greatly expanded our Assessment Center services, which our workforce partners have come to rely on as a key contributor to their ability to screen, assess and hire the most qualified people.”

Dr. Gregory Stewart to Coordinate Gateway's new Human Services program

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19)  – Dr. Gregory Stewart has joined Gateway Community and Technical College as coordinator of the college’s new Human Services program, according to Susan Chaney, chair of Gateway’s Allied Health Division.

Dr. Stewart is responsible for the day to day operations of the new major that offers an associate in applied science degree in human services.

Upon graduation from the two-year program, students can transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field such as social work. By law, Gateway credits can be transferred to any public four-year university in Kentucky and are accepted elsewhere throughout the country.
