Bike and Ride FREE on Metro, TANK and CTC on May 17

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  To celebrate Bike to Work Day, bicycle commuters can ride free on Metro, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) or Clermont Transportation Connection (CTC) on Friday, May 17, when they transport their bikes on the easy-to-use bus bike racks.

Bike racks are located on the front of all Metro, TANK and CTC buses and can be used at all bus stops including Government Square downtown. Each bike rack can accommodate two bikes. For safety reasons, bikes are not allowed on-board buses unless they can be folded and stowed under a seat.

Metro and TANK will also be at the Bike to Work Day Celebration on Washington Park on May 17, from noon to 1 p.m., to demonstrate the ease of biking and riding buses. Visit http://www.queencitybike.com/ for information on Cincinnati Bike Month activities.

One year of free Metro rides in exchange for an amazing story

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Metro is celebrating its 40th anniversary by gathering at least 40 stories from riders to highlight its rich history. In return, Metro will be giving out prizes to riders, including a year of free rides.

The stories collected, which will be used in Metro marketing materials throughout the year, could include tales of meeting a spouse on a bus, celebrating an event or establishing a special bond with a driver.

Metro’s 40th Anniversary Story Contest runs through March 31. The best story, judged by Metro employees, will receive a year of free rides. Four runners up will get 30-day rolling passes.

To enter, riders can submit their story on Metro’s website, email to mymetrostory@go-metro.com, fax to 513-632-9202, or mail to Metro 40th Anniversary Contest, SORTA/Metro, 602 Main St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.

The official date of Metro's 40th anniversary is August 31.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Local Metro rider’s will be happy to know that Metro 30-day rolling passes and 10-ride tickets are now available at the City Treasurer’s office at City Hall downtown.

The new location, open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

“Riding Metro is more convenient than many people realize,” said Larry Falkin, Director of the City’s Office of Environment Equality. “For City employees, getting bus passes is now more convenient, too. Transit saves energy and money, but only for those who use it.”

This is the fourth downtown location that sells Metro passes. All Metro sales outlets are listed on Metro's website at http://www.go-metro.com/fares-passes/where-to-buy.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - National Passport Day is Saturday, March 9, and the Main Library is making it easy to apply for a passport all weekend. The Information & Reference Department, located on the second floor of the South Building, will have additional staff available to assist customers with their passport applications Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-ins are accepted as staffing permits. It's Just a Test... Metro Emergency Exercise on Feb. 13

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  – Metro staff will be taking part in a full-scale security exercise on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Metro bus service will not be affected.

The training exercise is targeted to address counter-terrorism for Metro staff and community constituents including local fire and police departments, the Hamilton County EMA and other organizations. It will be held primarily at Metro’s Bond Hill facility, but will also include efforts at the Queensgate facility and Metro’s downtown location at 602 Main Street.

Metro was awarded funding to be used toward designing and executing a simulation exercise as a part of the federal 2010 Transit Security Grant Program. The funding also included a tabletop-style exercise that was completed in August. Metro is working with ARMADA, an operational risk and all hazards solutions provider based in Central Ohio, to perform these emergency exercises.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  – To work, to school, to play and everywhere in between – more people rode Metro last year.

Metro had a 4.2% ridership increase compared to 2011, significantly higher than the national average increase for bus systems. Last year, Metro provided almost 17.4 million passenger trips. Including Access service for people with disabilities, Metro provided almost 17.6 million rides total.

Huge increases in university pass program ridership: In addition, ridership for Metro’s student pass programs at local universities is up significantly. Metro had a 24% increase in ridership at the University of Cincinnati and a 19% increase at Cincinnati State in 2012, compared to 2011.
